The Edmonton Oilers have not won a New Year’s Eve game in more than three decades.
Hard to fathom, but as the Oilers get ready to host the Vancouver Canucks Saturday, the last time they beat a team on Dec. 31 was 1985, 4-3 over the Philadelphia Flyers at what was then Northlands Coliseum.
In their NHL history, the Oilers are 2-14-1 on New Year’s Eve tilts. The other win was 1982, 8-1 in Vancouver. The tie was 2-2 in Calgary in 2001.
