Nagatomo out of Palermo match: Inter Milan

Milan: A muscle problem has forced Inter Milan defender Yuto Nagatomo out of their first home Serie A fixture of the season against Palermo, the Italian giants announced Saturday.

“Yuto Nagatomo didn’t train with the squad after scans revealed a muscle problem in his right leg,” a brief statement posted on Twitter by Inter said.

Inter’s maiden home game of the new season on Sunday will also be coach Frank De Boer’s first stint on the San Siro touchlines after he replaced the sacked Roberto Mancini earlier this month.

Former Barcelona and Netherlands star De Boer will be under pressure to convince fans after Inter suffered a 2-0 opening defeat away to Chievo last weekend, when former AC Milan winger Valter Birsa hit a brace.

Nagatomo is expected to undergo further tests next week which will determine the extent of his knock, although De Boer will be hoping to have the pacy Japanese back in time for the opening fixture of their Europa League campaign at home to Hapoel Beer-Sheva on September 15.

In Saturday’s Serie A games Lazio host champions Juventus, while last season’s runners-up Napoli host AC Milan.
